Hockey Legend Gordie Howe Dies At 88

TOLEDO, Ohio (CBSMiami/AP) -- Hockey Hall-of-Famer Gordie Howe passed away in Ohio at the age of 88.
Known simply as "Mr. Hockey," Howe began his career in 1946 and played 26 seasons total, most notably with the Detroit Red Wings, where he won four Stanley Cup championships and held NHL records for goals (801) and points (1,850) for decades until Wayne Gretzky surpassed him.
Howe was also famously fierce, using elbows and fists to rough up opponents, that a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick," became synonymous with the combination of having a goal, an assist and a fight in one game.
He retired from the sport at 52.
Howe suffered a significant stroke in 2014, though his family said stem cell treatment in Mexico had given him a miraculous recovery, CBS Detroit reported.
His son, Murray Howe, told the Associated Press: "Mr Hockey left peacefully, beautifully, and w no regrets."
