Hit Man Set To Be Sentenced In Hotel Heir Murder
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBSMiami/AP) — It's sentencing day for the hitman who admitted killing South Florida millionaire Ben Novack Jr. and his mother.
Alejandro Garcia is scheduled for sentencing Thursday afternoon in New York and he hopes his testimony against the millionaire's wife will keep his sentence under 30 years.
Garcia admitted helping to kill Ben Novack Jr. in a New York hotel room in 2009.
He also said he killed Bernice Novack at her Fort Lauderdale home a few months earlier.
Ben Novack's father built the Fontainebleau hotel in Miami Beach.
Garcia testified at the trial of Novack's wife, Narcy Novack, and her brother, Cristobal Veliz. They were convicted of arranging the killings and are serving life sentences.
Federal sentencing guidelines call for a 30-year sentence, but Garcia is asking for 15 years. Prosecutors have told the judge that Garcia's cooperation was extraordinary.
