Hispanic Group Co-Sponsoring Fla. GOP January Debate
MIAMI (CBS4/ AP) — A conservative Hispanic political group is a co-sponsor for the January Republican Party of Florida presidential primary debate, the group announced.
The debate, to be held on Jan. 26, is just five days before the Jan. 31 Florida primary.
The state party announced Friday the Hispanic Leadership Network as co-sponsor of the debate that will be aired on CNN and CNN en Espanol.
The group wants to persuade Hispanic voters in swing states including Nevada, Florida and New Mexico that conservative candidates are better suited to fix the nation's struggling economy.
"The Presidential debate, just days before the January 31 primary, will present a great opportunity for our candidates to make their case to Florida's Republicans," explained Chairman Lenny Curry. "We wanted Florida Latinos to join the conversation, and this partnership with the Hispanic Leadership Network allows it to happen."
According to a press release from the RPOF, "The Hispanic Leadership Network is an advocacy action group focused on engaging the Hispanic community on center-right policies based on the principles of freedom, limited government and individual empowerment."
Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Gov. Luis Fortuno of Puerto Rico serve on the group's national committee.
