High Risk Of Rip Currents Saturday
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The first official day of winter is here, but with South Florida's warm temperatures saying otherwise, weather experts are warning beach-goers of dangerous rip currents.
A high risk of rip currents, according to the National Weather Service, will last through Saturday evening at 7 PM.
The rip currents, due to moderate onshore winds and surf, are anticipated along Atlantic beaches.
While water on a warm December day may seem enticing, beach-goers--even strong swimmers--are encouraged to remain out of the water for their safety.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water that flow quickly from shore.
When visiting beaches, always pay attention to lifeguards, beach patrol and any flags or signs posted that warn of dangers—like rip currents.
