High Bail Set For Hollywood Man Accused In Brutal Beating Of Girlfriend
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) - A Broward judge imposed an unusual bail requirement for a Hollywood man accused of brutally beating a woman in their home.
Circuit Court Judge John "Jay" Hurley ruled that Terry Ray McBride, 40, must pay every dollar of his $750,000 bond before he is allowed out of jail.
The Hollywood Police arrest affidavit states that on October 12, McBride repeatedly kicked, stomped, and punched the woman for more than an hour. The alleged beating may have also been witnessed by a juvenile who lives in the neighborhood on the 5900 block of Fillmore Street.
The beating was so brutal at times, the woman, who has not been identified, sustained at least 20 blows to the head.
The woman was taken to the intensive care unit at Memorial Regional Hospital. The affidavit states that the woman's injuries were so severe they caused her to seize multiple times. A nurse reportedly told police that doctors thought she may have a brain tumor and prepped her for surgery, but later learned that she had been severely beaten.
When detectives asked McBride if he wanted to give a sworn statements, the report states he replied, ""I just fell on top of her with my elbow and accidentally hit her in the mouth." When asked again if he wanted to make a statement, McBride refused.
Detectives say they were not able to interview the woman because she is under heavy sedation in the ICU.
The woman's mother and a friend told police that McBride has a history of domestic violence.
McBride has been charged with Aggravated Battery and Violation of Probation.
