Hernandez Denied Bond; Investigated For 2012 Double Murder

NORTH ATTLEBOROUGH, Mass. (CBSMiami) – Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was denied bail again Thursday on first-degree murder charges for the death of Odin Lloyd. As the second bail hearing was underway, new details about a double-murder from last year may implicate Hernandez again.

Hernandez's second court appearance ended the same way his first did with the former NFL star being sent back to jail. Superior Court Judge Renee Dupuis said the case against Hernandez sounded strong and that she does not think Hernandez should be released on bail.

The prosecution also intimated Thursday that Hernandez may have been photographed with a Glock .45 that could be the murder weapon. Prosecutors also said a condominium leased by Hernandez was searched Wednesday and evidence inside included ammunition the same caliber as the ammo found at the murder scene along with other ammunition.

"There was a photo that was shown on the Internet of the defendant holding a Glock .45," prosecutor William McCauley said, according to profootballtalk.com. "That Glock — there's good reason to believe the firearm that killed Mr. Lloyd was a Glock because the Glock has a rifling system that is different than most firearms."

It was during this time the Boston Globe dropped a bombshell report.

An investigation was underway into a possible link between Hernandez and a 2012 double murder. The Globe reported that Lloyd may have had information implicating Hernandez in the 2012 crime.

"The motive might have been that the victim knew [Hernandez] might have been involved," one of the officials involved in the 2012 case told the Globe.

CNN also reported late Thursday the Boston Police Department located and impounded a Silver SUV with Rhode Island registration that may be connected with the 2012 double murder. Investigators believe that Hernandez was renting the SUV at the time of those killings, the source told CNN.

Officially, the NFL has remained conspicuously quiet about Hernandez. The league has acted on personal conduct issues in the past before a conviction was handed down, but so far the league has not made any move regarding Hernandez's status, which is the least of his concerns.

CNN also reported Hernandez was showing "no apparent nervousness" in jail and was described by the Bristol County Sheriff's Office as a "model inmate."
