MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — The Miami Heat's Chris Bosh may miss the remainder of the season after being admitted to the hospital on Thursday.

According to CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald, the team could announce Friday whether Bosh will be forced to miss the rest of the season following tests on his lungs.

Bosh remains at South Miami Hospital, where he was admitted Thursday.

The fear was that Bosh could have blood clots on his lungs. If there is a pulmonary embolus, or multiple clots, then Bosh would be out for the remainder of the season, and possibly longer, while being treated with blood thinners for pulmonary embolism.

"Untreated pulmonary clots have a 20-percent chance of death. We don't see that mortality anymore because now we therapy--so mortality from clots is very very low," said University of Miami Dr. Luis Alvarez.

Miami plays at New York in Madison Square Garden on Friday night. Bosh did not fly with the team Thursday.

Coach Erik Spoelstra met with the media ahead of Friday's game.

"Well look, the most important thing is that he's a family member and we want to make sure his health is the priority. In terms of all the rumors and speculation we're aware of it, all the things that are out there...everybody is jumping the gun right now and I know there's a lot out there. Frankly there's not a full diagnosis right now," Spoelstra said.

Bosh was not feeling well and was sent home by the team from practice Wednesday. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said at Thursday afternoon's practice, when Bosh was missing again, that he remained "under the weather" but offered no specifics on his condition.

Last weekend, according to the Herald, Heat assistant coach Juwan Howard mentioned that Bosh was dealing with rib injuries. Doctors suspect the pain was related to his current condition, the paper said.

Bosh is averaging 21.1 points and 7.0 rebounds this season. He signed a five-year contract worth just over $118 million last summer, and played Sunday night in the All-Star Game in New York — his 10th appearance in the NBA's showcase game.

Bosh said before the All-Star break that he was looking forward to some time off to rest and recover from some nagging issues, though did not specify what those were.

He and wife Adrienne vacationed with Heat teammate Dwyane Wade and his wife, Gabrielle Union, in Haiti this week, but Bosh's medical issue was something that he was dealing with well before that trip began.

"He wasn't feeling good," Wade said Thursday afternoon. "I don't know what it was. He just wasn't feeling good overall."

Bosh has been flooded with tons of tweets..some from current and former team mates.

Mario Chalmers tweeted, "Prayers up for my big dog @chrisbosh. Everything gonna b fine."

Lebron James tweeted, "Wish I could be there by your side this very moment to tell a joke or something homie. Just to get your mind off what you're going through!" He also tweeted, "But I know you're strong and will come back better than ever on and off the court."

Bosh's wife, Adrienne tweeted on Friday, "We are just staying focused on positivity and keeping him healthy #BoshFamily #TeamBosh #HEATNation."
