Hemingway Look-Alikes Spoof Pamplona's Bull Run In Key West
KEY WEST (CBS4)-Ernest Hemingway look-alikes proved their affinity for the author is "no bull" during Saturday's "Running of the Bulls," a zany and much shorter take-off on the world-renowned annual run held in Pamplona, Spain.
The event featured past winners and competitors in the annual "Papa" Hemingway Look-Alike Contest. The stocky, white-bearded "Ernests" paraded through downtown Key West with life-size manmade replica bulls.
The event is a highlight of Key West's Hemingway Days festival, honoring the iconic author who lived and wrote on the island throughout the 1930s.
The offbeat run began outside Sloppy Joe's Bar, frequented by Ernest Hemingway during his decade-long residence in Key West. The route proceeded along a section of the island city's famed Duval Street.
Saturday night at Sloppy Joe's, finalists chosen from more than 120 entrants are to vie for the title of "Papa" in the final round of the look-alike contest.
Hemingway Days began July 19 with events including literary readings, a marlin tournament and a short story competition directed by author and Hemingway granddaughter Lorian Hemingway.
The festival concludes Sunday.
