"Hello, This Is Peggy" Bill Passes Senate Committee
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) – The so called "Hello, this is Peggy" bill has been given unanimous approval by the state's Senate Budget Committee.
The measure (SB 678) requires that all state contracts over $35,000 include a provision that any call-center services related to the contract be staffed in the United States.
Legislative staff noted that the measure could limit companies willing to contract with the state, and could raise the cost of contracts because of the potential for a higher cost for domestic labor.
The Budget Committee was the final stop for the bill, which now goes to the floor. An identical House bill (HB 649), however, has yet to be heard in committee.
