Heavy Rain Possible Through Friday
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Expect a wet and windy week ahead as plenty of deep tropical moisture builds in across South Florida Tuesday and over the next few days.
CBS4 Storm Team meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez reported the area has picked up about an inch of rain through Tuesday morning. That number is likely to rise due to the very humid and unsettled atmosphere over the area.
In addition to all the moisture surging from the Caribbean, the strong onshore winds out of the Southeast are helping to drag in moisture off the Atlantic and the Bahamas.
Basically, the atmosphere will remain saturated the next few days and we will see showers and storms on and off again throughout the day with some heavy downpours in spots. The rain chance remains high at 60 % through Friday.
Because we have high pressure off to the northeast over in the Atlantic; the winds will continue to be strong out of the east from 15 to 20 mph and gusts as high as 35 miles per hour.
Red flags will be flying at the beaches due to the dangerous high risk of rip currents, so it is best for folks headed to the coast to stay out of the ocean and avoid swimming. The gusty breeze also means hazardous marine conditions. Boaters are urged to exercise caution due to winds out of the East at 20 knots and choppy 4 to 6 feet seas.
Rainy season is really kicking into gear here the final days of May just as South Florida approaches the start of Hurricane Season which begins on Saturday, June 1st.
