Heat Stop Pistons; Glide Into First Place
DETROIT (CBS4) - The Miami Heat is now all alone in first place in the Eastern Conference after a 106-92 victory over the Detroit Pistons Friday night. The win pushed the Heat's overall record to 39-14.
The win was also the Heat's 19th road win of the year, which is tied for most in the league in 2011 with the San Antonio Spurs.
Dwyane Wade paced the Heat with 24 points and 8 rebounds, while LeBron James poured in 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 10 assists. Power forward Chris Bosh added 17 points and 10 rebounds
The Heat had six players in double figures during the game. The blowout victory saw many fans leaving the Palace at Auburn Hills early as the Heat pounded the Pistons.
Not all the fans in Detroit were very respectful of Heat players, especially James. A fan was heckling James during the game and eventually James came over and said something to the heckler.
According to a fan seated near the heckler, James said that you could say anything you wanted about him, but "don't say anything about my family, be respectful, or we're going to have a problem."
Security eventually talked to the fan, but he was allowed to stay in his seat.
Detroit fans are known for their questionable tactics and the Pistons arena was the site of the ugliest brawl in NBA history during the Malace at the Palace. During that brawl, players went into the stands to fight with Pistons and the game had to be called off.
Miami entered the night tied atop the conference with Boston, which was off after losing to the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday.
That means the Heat are now all alone in first place in the Eastern Conference.
The Celtics host the Heat (39-14) on Sunday.
