Heat Set To Sign Center Erick Dampier
MIAMI (CBS4) - With Udonis Haslem out indefinitely for the Miami Heat, the team went digging through the free agent wire for a big man Monday. By Tuesday, they had signed 35-year-old veteran center Erick Dampier to a one-year contract.
The Heat had to make room on their roster for Dampier, so Tuesday, the team waived guard Jerry Stackhouse. Dampier arrived in Miami Monday night and could be available for the team's next game.
Dampier, who stands 6'11" and weighs 265 pounds, has played in 921 career games and averages 7.4 rebounds a game to go along with nearly 8 points per game.
For the Heat, Dampier will now join the roster which already has centers Dexter Pittman, Zydrunas Ilgauskas, Joel Anthony, and Jamaal Magloire.
The Heat coaching staff and management have been trying to find a workable lineup for most of the season to compliment the Big Three of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh. The team is barely above .500, but still tied for second in the southeast division.
Still, until the Heat can put together a lineup that features some type of semblance of a point guard that can distribute the ball, the Heat will likely continue to struggle.
