MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The NBA trade deadline is coming up on Thursday at 3 p.m. and a hot topic in South Florida is whether the Miami Heat will look to deal young center Hassan Whiteside.
While the 26-year-old big man has shown great promise in this first full season as an NBA regular, there are also questions about his ability to perform down the stretch of game and whether he's mature enough to be worth a max contract.
A rumor emerged on Monday that Heat fans will likely find quite interesting.
According to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News, the Heat are in discussions with the Houston Rockets regarding a trade that would bring Dwight Howard to Miami in exchange for Whiteside and likely others.
Howard, 30, has proven how well he can play in the NBA when healthy and big name players seem to enjoy playing in Miami.
It's an interesting thing to ponder, but the Heat would have add some salary to the deal.
Whiteside makes less than $1 million this season while Howard makes over $22 million, so Miami would have to add a few pricy pieces to the trade to make it work.
This is likely the first of many Whiteside-related rumors that will pop up over the next few days as the deadline approaches.
