Heat Fans May Cheer Against Marlins
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Heat are trying to become the best team in basketball with a second straight NBA championship in the 2013 NBA Finals, but is it possible Heat fans should also be concerned about the worst team in baseball?
The Heat has been playing in the playoffs for almost three months, but a strange thing started happening when the calendar turned over to June. Every time the Miami Marlins won, which has been a rarity, the Heat would go on to lose its playoff game on the same day.
The Heat played the Indiana Pacers on June 1st and was blown out 91-77. June 1st saw the Marlins play the New York Mets in Miami and the Marlins destroyed New York 8-1. Then on June 6th, the Heat lost to the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, 92-88; and the Marlins didn't lose, mainly because they had an off date.
Last Tuesday, the Heat was mauled by the Spurs 113-77 in one of the most lopsided losses in NBA history. The same day, the Marlins knocked off the Milwaukee Brewers in the only win in the three-game series against the Brew crew.
Finally, Sunday the Marlins laid a beat down of the St. Louis Cardinals, 7-2 and as most of South Florida knows the Heat was beaten in Game 5 of the NBA Finals 114-104 in a game that wasn't as close as the final score indicated.
Another interesting coincidence was that all of the Marlins' wins came inside the confines of Marlins Park while three of the Heat's four losses came on the road. The lone Heat loss at home in June came when the Marlins were off.
So what should Miami Heat fans be expecting in Game 6 and Game 7 based on the unique coincidence with the Marlins? Well, the Marlins will play in Arizona against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday and in San Francisco against the Giants on Thursday, but it still may not be a bad idea for Heat fans to cheer for the Diamondbacks and Giants in both games.
