Heat Blowout Spurs In Game 2
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The San Antonio Spurs came into Game 2 looking to take a commanding lead over the Miami Heat in the 2013 NBA Finals. By the time the final buzzer sounded, the Spurs bore witness to the power of the fully operational battle station that is the Heat.
The Heat knocked off the Spurs 103-84 and that final score didn't fully illustrate how dominant the Heat was in the game. The Heat actually led by nearly 30 points at one point in the fourth quarter.
The game was neck and neck throughout much of the first three quarters. Both teams battled back and forth, despite the Spurs' Tim Duncan and the Heat's LeBron James struggling from the field.
Then, an avalanche of Heat talent hit the Spurs and never took their foot off the gas again.
The Heat went on a 33-5 run from the third quarter into the fourth quarter and held the Spurs scoreless for the first three minutes of the fourth quarter.
The Heat's run was capped off by a thunderous dunk from James on a no-look pass from reserve forward Mike Miller after a turnover.
Miami's most powerful weapons throughout the night were the play of Heat point guard Mario Chalmers and the screen-and-roll with LeBron setting the screen.
Chalmers was fearless going into the lane and battled underneath the screen-and-roll the Spurs used to perfection in Game 1 with Tony Parker. Chalmers finished the game with 19 points on 50 percent shooting from the field and behind the three-point line.
When LeBron set screens during the game, the Spurs couldn't double-team the ball and leave LeBron wide open. That left wide-open lanes for the Heat's ball-handlers to get to the basket.
The Heat also got a superb performance from Chris Bosh. The center struggled mightily in the first game of the series but came back Sunday night with 12 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and three steals.
James finished with 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. The Heat's bench also outscored the bench 37-27, with the majority of San Antonio's points coming during garbage time of the fourth quarter.
The Heat's victory ended San Antonio's seven game postseason winning streak and kept the Heat's streak alive of not losing back-to-back games in the last six months (January 8-10).
The NBA Finals will move to San Antonio for the next three games. Miami will need at least one win in San Antonio to keep the series going.
