Hearing Sets Schedule For Zimmerman Trial, Jury Selection
SANFORD, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — Trial scheduling and the jury selection process will be laid off at a Thursday hearing by a judge presiding over the trial of George Zimmerman.
The half-hour hearing will take place at 4 p.m. and was requested by attorneys of George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain accused of killing teen Trayvon Martin.
Lead attorney Mark O'Mara says in a motion he wants to discuss the jury selection process since he's anticipating an "extended" jury selection.
O'Mara also wants to nail down the scheduling of Zimmerman's "stand your ground" hearing in which the judge will decide if there is enough evidence to go to trial or if the case should be dismissed. That hearing must be held by the end of April.
Zimmerman's trial on second-degree murder is set to begin in June.
Zimmerman is pleading not guilty, claiming he acted in self-defense when he fatally shot Trayvon Martin.
