"Happy" Delivered To Children At Miami Homeless Center
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - While many kids were asking for the latest toy this holiday season, all one Miami-Dade County 2nd grader wanted for Christmas was a McDonald's Happy Meal.
She made that request to county school superintendent Alberto Carvalho at a school function.
"She said the only thing she wanted for Christmas was a Happy Meal from McDonalds," said Carvalho. " And in the world of plenty for a child to simply want a Happy Meal..."
Carvalho later learned that the girl lived in a homeless assistance center, so he reached into his own pocket and brought a Happy Meal to all 111 children living at the center.
"For me personally very sad happy meal because there are 111 homeless children living right here. Another couple hundred others living in Homestead."
Parents at the center were grateful for Carvalho's generosity.
"It was real nice. I think out of the kindness of his heart," said parent Megan Carasotti. "That is was nice."
Carvalho says he likes to do something nice every year for those less fortunate in Miami-Dade County.
"It's something that they crave for. Something they didn't get a chance to do," said the center's Deputy Director Alfredo Brown. "Here it is, it's being brought to them."
