Happy Birthday, iPhone
MIAMI (CBS4) - Believe it or not, the iPhone is only turning five years old today. I don't know about you, but to me it seems like it's been around a lot longer than that.
And there's little doubt, that for better or worse, the iPhone has almost breathtakingly transformed the way we live.
As a Stanford sociologist and psychologist who's an expert on technology said this week, "there has been no other device that has changed social and technological life in such a short time."
Hundreds of thousands of apps have allowed us to organize our lives in different ways.
More than two hundred million iPhones have sold and we use them as mirrors, flashlights, TVs, music players, video game machines and pocket computers.
CBS-4's Gio Benitez was the first to show iPhones could even be TV news cameras.
But, as you know, if you've tried to have a conversation with someone who has an iPhone in their hands, it has also become a barrier to human interaction, often leading to people becoming disengaged socially.
Conversely, it keeps us permanently in touch, giving us little down time.
Still, I'd argue the good has far outweighed the bad.
When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone he said it would be revolutionary... I wonder if even he guessed how true that would be.
