Hanley Injures Hand Punching Cooling Fan
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Marlins have stumbled into the All-Star break for a second straight year. This year, the team will not be represented in the game by a player after Giancarlo Stanton had to have surgery. But it was Hanley Ramirez who put the final wrapping on a dismal first half of the season.
According to the Palm Beach Post, after Ramirez bounced out in the sixth inning of Sunday's game; he came into the dugout and slammed his right hand into a cooling fan and slicked open his knuckles requiring two stitches.
It was nearly the only thing Hanley connected with during the teams' recent road trip. During the trip that ended Sunday, Ramirez was 2-22 from the plate, according to the Post.
Marlins manager Ozzie Guillen was understandably upset with Ramirez's injury.
"You're going to hurt yourself because you can't hit? Good hitters don't do that," Guillen told MLB.com. "Good hitters battle back and try to get better. When you make an out and you hit something, you don't just hurt yourself, you hurt the ballclub."
Ramirez is expected to suit up on Friday when the Marlins. Through the first half of the season, Hanley is hitting .248 with 12 home runs and 44 RBI's.
