FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- Quick thinking by a teen being booked by a Fort Lauderdale Police officer helped save the officers life.
Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Franklin Foulks was processing 17-year old Jamal Rutledge on September 10, 2014 when Foulks suddenly collapsed.
That's when Rutledge, still in handcuffs, began to kick the security fence and yell to alert officers in the area.
An officer walking near the booking area heard Rutledge and noticed Officer Foulks lying on the ground, semiconscious and clenching at his chest in distress.
Other officers jumped in to help until Fire rescue arrived.
Surveillance cameras caught the whole thing.
Broward Health Medical Staff noted that Rutledge's actions and the quick response of the officers were largely responsible for Officer Foulks surviving.
Rutledge along with others who also helped save him will be publicly recognized at a City of Fort Lauderdale Commission Meeting on Wednesday, January 21st at 6:00 p.m.
