Hallandale Cops Investigate 7-Month Old's Death

HALLANDALE BEACH (CBS4) - Hallandale Beach police have launched an investigation after a child was found by a relative not breathing in the family's apartment.

Hallandale Beach Fire Rescue said they received a call around 8:30 a.m. from a woman who said she had found a seven month old baby not breathing in its bed. Moments later fire rescue crews arrived at an apartment in the 800 block of NW 9th Street where they were met by the woman who made the call, she identified herself as the child's aunt.

Fire rescue personnel pronounced the child dead at the scene.

Police are now looking into whether the child died of natural causes or if foul play was involved.

"At this time it's still to early (to tell) that's why our people along with the Medical Examiner are here to make sure we can check the baby properly, we can interview everybody and all the family members to determine exactly what happened here today," said Hallandale Beach police spokeswoman Captain Sonia Quinones.
