Hallandale Beach Domestic Dispute Ends In Murder-Suicide
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) – A fight between a couple in Hallandale Beach turned deadly overnight.
It happened at the Park Layne Towers condominiums at 400 Golden Isles Drive after a woman called 911 to report her neighbor had been shot by her boyfriend.
When paramedics arrived they found an unconscious woman lying on the ground with a gunshot wound in her shoulder.
Bob Aaron, who lives in the building, said the extent of her injuries were not initially visible to paramedics.
"As it turns out I guess the bullet went through her shoulder and into her heart," said Aaron.
She was rushed to a hospital where she died.
Meanwhile the woman's boyfriend, who police suspect shot her, barricaded himself in the couple's condo
"Police department members then attempted to make contact with the resident of apartment 57 who were advised to go away," said Hallandale Beach Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy. "
The Hallandale Beach SWAT team and a negotiator were called to the scene and attempted to make contact. They couldn't make contact, and witnesses say the stand off between the man and SWAT lasted about five hours.
At one point, police fired tear gas canisters into the unit to force the man out.
After hearing shots from inside the apartment, police went in.
"The Hallandale Beach police department's SWAT team made entry and discovered a white male deceased inside apartment 57," said Flournoy.
Police have not released the couple's names.
"I was hoping he would've just come out and that she would've been able to recover," said neighbor Barbara Coutuiere.
She and other residents said they were saddened by the news, but were not surprised because they had witnessed several domestic disputes between the couple in the past.
Police confirm that the couple had multiple domestic disputes on file with them, but that no arrests were ever made. Investigators also tell CBS4 News that a note was left at the crime scene, but they would not release the details in the note.
