Haitian Presidential Candidate 'Sweet Micky' Campaigns In Miami
MIAMI (CBS4) -- South Florida's Haitian-American community has been following details of Haiti's presidential runoff election very closely and now, they get to meet one of the candidates in person.
Michel Martelly, a candidate in Haiti's presidential runoff election is campaigning in South Florida Wednesday where he'll meet with the Haitian-American community in Miami.
The 50-year-old candidate is better known as the singer "Sweet Micky." Martelly says the lack of leadership that followed the 2010 earthquake in Haiti prompted him to run for president.
Martelly faces former first lady Mirlande Manigat in Haiti's March 20 runoff vote.
Both were among 19 presidential candidates in Haiti's flawed initial election in November. That vote was followed by protests, riots and outrage until February when an international team of experts from the Organization of American States found problems with the vote count and declared Martelly and Manigat the top two finishers.
