Gusty Winds, Showers Through Thursday
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Gusty winds will continue to whip across South Florida on Wednesday.
CBS4 meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez said we can expect sustained winds out of the East in the 20 to 25 mile per hour range. Early Wednesday morning some areas saw gusts as high as 40 mph.
Strong high pressure in place off the Eastern Seaboard is leading to a tight pressure gradient which will help crank in the winds through Thursday, according to Gonzalez.
The high winds will bring rough surf and a high risk of dangerous rip currents. Beach goers are advised to stay out of the water.
The windy weather is also creating hazardous marine conditions. The National Weather Service has issued a Small Craft Advisory for coastal waters of South Florida from Jupiter Inland to Deerfield Beach due to waves up to 9 feet in the Gulf Stream.
A Gale Warning has been issued for the Keys.
Due to the strong onshore flow, some scattered showers will blow in on the breeze. Wednesday will be mostly to partly cloudy throughout the day with highs in the upper 70s. Thursday will also be windy with a few showers.
As high pressure moves off to the east, we will finally see the wind subside a bit by Friday with a warming trend into the weekend. Highs will be in the low 80s Saturday and Sunday.
