WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBSMiami) -- Officers opened fire on a woman who reportedly almost crashed into a police cruiser near the U.S. Capitol Wednesday morning.
Officers observed and erratic and aggressive driver near Capitol Hill around 9 a.m., according to Eva Malecki, the Communications Director for U.S. Capitol Police.
When they tried to stop her, police said, the driver made a u-turn as if to get away from them and nearly hit police officers and a cruiser. A short foot chase ensued but officers caught up to her.
"During the attempt to arrest the suspect, shots were fired," said Malecki.
No one was injured in the incident on the 100 block of Independence Avenue SW.
While a motive is unknown, Malecki said it doesn't seem to be related to terrorism.
"This incident appears to be criminal in nature with no nexus to terrorism," said Malecki.
The woman has been taken into custody.
U.S. Capitol Police are conducting an investigation into this incident.
