12-Year-Old Shot In Opa-locka Speaks Out

OPA LOCKA (CBSMiami) – Opa-locka police are working to determine what may have led to a shooting Monday night which sent four young people to the hospital.
The four teens were shot at an apartment complex at NW 135th Street and 30th Avenue.
"I understand that someone came up and opened fire," said Opa-locka Assistant City Manager David Chiverton. "I believe one of the victims came across the street seeking assistance."
Police said three of the injured, who ranged in age from 12 to 16 years of age, were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. The fourth drove himself to the hospital.
Reginald Session, the youngest of the injured, was shot in the leg. A bullet went through his thigh. He said two boys who don't live in the apartment complex came in and started shooting. A seventh grader at Florida International Charter School, Session said he was supposed to be at football practice Monday but it was canceled because of the rain.
"I was just watching the fireworks and they came out shooting," Session said.
He added his cousin Bernard Cooper was also injured in the shooting.
Session said some of the kids in the complex were playing with fireworks and didn't realize some of the explosions they heard were gunshots.
"When I heard my cousin say he got hit I just started running," said Session.
One of the kids ran to a nearby convenience store and collapsed. Surveillance video, which is not being released, shows the teen collapsing. Another drove himself to the hospital.
Session was taken to Ryder Trauma by ambulance.
Police have not released a description of who they are looking for. They did say they that are looking for a black Chevy sedan that sped away from the scene of the shooting.
