Guide To Sun Life Stadium

Sun Life Stadium is the home for Miami Dolphins and UM Hurricanes football and is converted into a baseball stadium for Florida Marlins games. The stadium was the site of the most recent Super Bowl, XLIV and also serves as home for the annual Orange Bowl.

Although the stadium has gone through seven name changes since gates opened in 1987, the name Sun Life is contracted to stick until January, 2015. The former names, in order are: Joe Robbie Stadium, Pro Player Park, Pro Player Stadium, Dolphins Stadium, Dolphin Stadium, and Land Shark Stadium.

The Marlins are expected to move out of the Sun Life Stadium in 2012 when construction is finished on the new ballpark in Miami. Stadium officials are hoping to make some major renovations once the Marlins move-out, including the addition of a canopy roof that will shield fans from weather elements, but the field will remain exposed. Plans to bring the lower bowl stands closer to the field are also in the works.

Tip: Although it is only twenty-three years old, the stadium has hosted five Super Bowls, two World Series, and three BCS National Championship Games.
