Guide To St. Patrick's Day In South Florida

MIAMI (CBS4) - South Florida may not have a very large Irish population, but we're all Irish when we celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17th. If you don't have plans for this year, consider joining in some of the festivities planned around town, including street festivals and celebrations at various pubs. Get ready to paint the town green and celebrate with the Irish!

Partygoers can join in on the festivities a few days early by attending a number of parades across South Florida. Continue the celebrations on St. Patrick's Day at a number of local restaurants and pubs.

The St. Patrick's Day Irish festival put on by the Emerald Society on the Saturday before St. Patrick's Day. The annual festival, which is held at Fred B. Harnett Park in Coral Gables, runs from noon until sunset, 6 p.m. to be specific. The festival features Irish food, musical entertainment, dancing, crafts, kids' activities and a full-service bar. It's fun for the whole family!

Las Olas Boulevard from S.E. 8th Avenue to Huizenga Plaza

Join in on the festivities with a traditional Irish blessing at 11:30 a.m. at Huizenga Plaza (corner of Las Olas Boulevard and Andrews Avenue) followed by a team of para-commandos who will parachute into the park to officially kick off the festivities. Philanthropist Wini Amaturo of the Amaturo Family Foundation will serve as Grand Marshal. Radio personality Mindy Lang, from Majic 102.7, will serve as the Parade Emcee. The parade starts at noon along Las Olas Boulevard, from Southeast Eighth Avenue to Huizenga Plaza. Festivities continue until 9 p.m.

The parade will begin with a dramatic flyover by a United States Coast Guard helicopter. Highlights will include decorative floats, pipe and drum bands, classic automobiles, bagpipers, stilt walkers, high school marching bands, sports leagues, scouts, street performers, Irish dancers, the Miami Dolphins, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, veteran groups, and elected officials. The festival will also include an expanded Kids Zone featuring bounce houses, a train, face painting, a petting zoo, pony rides, balloon artists, interactive games and much more!

Young Circle and Hollywood Boulevard

For 13 years, the Hibernians of Hollywood have teamed with the City to put on a parade and festival for thousands to experience the fun-loving spirit of St. Patrick's Day.
Pipe bands, floats and marching bands will be part of the city of Hollywood's annual parade and festival. The parade, emceed by radio celebrity John "Footy" Kross, takes place from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday at Young Circle and Hollywood Boulevard. The festival also features Irish music at 19th Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, vendors, traditional Irish food and drinks. Downtown restaurants will be offering festival specials.

JohnMartin's Restaurant & Irish Pub hosts this annual street fair along Salzedo Street and Aragon Avenue in Coral Gables. It is a free event includes a live music concert and street fair, starting at 5 p.m. with performances by Paddy Kelleghan & The Rolling C's. At 7 p.m. The Hard Liquor Band will perform and UV, a U2 tribute show will begin at 9 p.m. The party doesn't end until around 12 a.m. The restaurant will be open and serve a traditional Irish menu beginning at 11:30 a.m. The street party will feature food and drinks.
