TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) — The conservative group Florida Family Policy Council has called on Governor Rick Scott to end state funding for Planned Parenthood.
Council President John Stemberger also wants Scott to stop saying he opposes abortion if he truly doesn't.
Stemberger held a news conference Thursday in an effort to pressure the governor to cut contracts Florida has through combined state and federal programs like Medicaid.
Scott has signed bills into law that require women to get an ultrasound and wait 24 hours before getting an abortion. And in July he ordered a state agency to inspect 16 Florida Planned Parenthood clinics that provide abortions.
But Stemberger said that's not enough if the governor wants to say he opposes abortion.
Neither Planned Parenthood nor Scott's office responded immediately to requests for comment.
