Group Begins Count Of Dade's Homeless Youth
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – Volunteers will hit the streets of Miami-Dade on Thursday to begin counting the number of young homeless people.
Volunteers will canvas a dozen fixed locations where homeless youth are thought to reside.
The count is being spearheaded by the Miami-Dade County Homeless Trust and The Miami Coalition for the Homeless.
Homeless youth, between the ages of 13 and 24 year old, can be difficult to find because they often keep a low profile.
The iCount includes a comprehensive outreach with young volunteers and social media, along with assistance from public school officials. A public service announcement campaign will also promote the youth count.
Advocates say understanding the extent of homelessness in Miami will allow them to deliver better services.
The iCount coincides with the county's bi-annual homeless count.
