Ground Broken For Margaritaville Resort
HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – Years in the making, a big step was taken Thursday to bring a Jimmy's Buffett's island-themed paradise resort to Hollywood Beach.
A special groundbreaking was held at the Hollywood Beach Bandshell located at Johnson Street at the Broadwalk. Buffett was not be able to attend because he's on tour.
"We are excited about getting the project started and look forward to the grand opening in 2015," said project developer Lon Tabatchnick.
The 349-room Margaritaville Hollywood Beach will have seven restaurants, ocean-side pools, a FlowRider wave ride, spa and fitness center along with 35,000 square feet of convention space. In addition, there will be a public parking garage with 600 spaces.
"The Margaritaville project represents a significant investment on Hollywood Beach that has captivated the imaginations of both residents and businesses alike," said Hollywood Mayor Peter Bober.
Bober added that he expects the resort project will spur redevelopment along the beach and pump tens of millions of dollars into the city's coffers which will be used to enhance neighborhoods.
The Hollywood Beach Bandshell, which is located adjacent to the resort and is a popular spot for local entertainment and cultural events, will also undergo a facelift, including new seating and upgraded audio-visual capabilities.
Once complete, Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort will take over programming, working in conjunction with the City of Hollywood Parks and Recreation Department to provide an expanded array of free entertainment for the public and resort guests to enjoy.
The resort is expected to open in 2015.
