Grieving Family Pleads For Help To Find Hit & Run Driver
HALLANDALE BEACH (CBSMiami) - A grieving family is pleading for the public's help to find a hit and run driver.
Sunday night, 43-year-old Efrain Coss was riding his bicycle eastbound on SE 9th street in Hallandale Beach when he was hit and killed.
His widow Ketty Coss says she learned what happened when she dialed her husband's cell phone and police answered.
"I know God but I'm mad because how could you leave someone without stopping?" said Ketty.
Coss says her husband spent his life helping others.
"He tried to help everybody, the homeless, he would give them clothes, a place to stay," Ketty said.
The accident happened not far from their home close to Gulfstream Park. Coss was on his way to his new job at the Steak and Shake on Federal highway in Hallandale Beach.
Police say a witness saw a car speeding away.
"The vehicle was a white compact Honda, driven by a heavy-set white male. The car should have heavy front end damage," said Captain Pedro Abut of the Hallandale Beach Police Department.
Coss's mother says she hasn't slept since learning the news.
"It's horrible. I'm in pain as are his brothers and his family," said Olga Montanez.
Montanez said she was worried when her son bought the bike just a couple of weeks ago but he needed transportation, and because he takes daily medication, he could not drive a car.
She has a message for the hit and run driver.
"He knew he killed someone and to hide himself, he knew he did something really bad," said Montanez.
