FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – State officials said around 65 bodies were found buried along Interstate 95 near Sunrise Boulevard – and some of those unmarked graves could have been paved over during the building and expansion of the highway.
According to the Sun Sentinel, the graves were part of potter's field within the five-acre Woodlawn Cemetery.

Since the state now owns some of the land, officials are trying to pinpoint the location of the graves to stop further destruction while they consider future improvements to the highway.
The focus will be on the graves that run beside I-95, because officials say it is impossible to know if bodies are buried under the roadway without impacting traffic to do surveys or digging up the highway.
Right now officials are working with residents to protect the area, as they figure out how to preserve the land.
