Gov't. Asks For Cuban Lawsuit To Be Dismissed
MIAMI (CBS4) - The U.S. Justice Department has asked a court to end a lawsuit filed by a woman seeking $27 million from eight air charter companies that fly from South Florida to Cuba.
The Justice Department said in court papers filed this week that Ana Margarita Martinez has no right to seek money from the charter companies to satisfy a 2001 legal judgment against the Cuban government.
Martinez won damages after claiming she was tricked into marrying a Cuban who was actually a spy. Her lawyers wanted to get money the charter companies pay Cuba for landing rights.
The Cuban government has ignored the lawsuit.
