Governor's Hurricane Conference Underway In Ft. Lauderdale
FORT LAUDERDALE. (CBSMiami/AP) – With the start of this year's hurricane season less than a month away, emergency management personnel are meeting in South Florida prepare for the upcoming season.
The annual Governor's Hurricane Conference got underway Sunday with training sessions in Fort Lauderdale. Training, workshops and presentations by government officials will continue through Friday.
This year's conference is focusing on lessons learned from flooding left by Hurricane Sandy and other tropical storms that affected Florida last year.
Gov. Rick Scott and officials from Florida's division of emergency management, the National Hurricane Center and the Federal Emergency Management Agency are scheduled to address the conference Wednesday.
The six-month Atlantic hurricane seasons officially begins June 1. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Climate Prediction Center will release its hurricane season outlook later this month.
