Gov. Scott Wants To Double Job Training Funding
JACKSONVILLE (AP) – Citing the need to be able to provide qualified applicants to companies that are hiring, Gov. Rick Scott wants to double the funding of the state's "quick response" job training program.
Scott urged lawmakers to increase the program's annual budget to $12 million on Tuesday in Jacksonville, where he visited the headquarters of a recently merged Winn-Dixie and Bi-Lo grocery chains.
Scott said the program that tailors training to the needs of employers helped Florida land the merged company's headquarters.
The new Bi Low & Winn-Dixie is worth $500 million with 690 grocery stores and 63,000 employees.
It's the nation's ninth largest supermarket chain.
