Gov. Scott To Recognize Tim Tebow With "Great Floridian" Award
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Some might question Tim Tebow's greatness on the field, but his greatness off the field is being recognized by Gov. Rick Scott.
The former Florida Gator quarterback will be named a "Great Floridian" at a ceremony on Friday. The event will be held at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach.
Two "Great Floridians" are chosen each year by the secretary of state from a list of nominees, making Tebow just the 66th person since 1981 to win the award.
The designation is given in recognition of the outstanding achievements of men and women who have made significant contributions to the progress and welfare of Florida, according to a press release from Gov. Scott's office.
The honorees represent former governors, artists, writers, civil rights activists, philanthropists, educators, athletes, military heroes, Florida Supreme Court Justices and other elected officials.
Tebow was a backup quarterback this past year for the New York Jets, and the team is looking for a taker on a trade deal.
