Gov. Scott On His Decision To Cancel RNC Appearances Due To Isaac
TAMPA (CBS4) -- Governor Rick Scott canceled his appearances at Republican National Convention events for Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday because he was focusing on Florida's response to Tropical Storm Isaac. The Governor also canceled his big speech at the RNC. He spoke with CBS4's Gio Benitez about that decision.
"My job is to keep everybody in our state safe. The citizens of our state, the delegates that are coming here, the tourists, and so that's why my focus is," he told Benitez.
Because the storm may now affect the Gulf Coast states, Governor Scott says he called the other governors, including Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal.
"If [they] need any of our support, we're there for [them], just like I know they would be to help us," he said.
Governor Scott also said he spoke with presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney and briefed him on the weather. He also spoke with President Obama about FEMA's response to Florida.
Monday, the Governor plans on meeting with the Florida delegation about the storm.
Also Sunday, RNC officials released a three-day schedule for the party's national convention, shortened because of Tropical Storm Isaac.
Party officials said presidential candidate Mitt Romney will be nominated Tuesday, as will vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan.
