Gov. Scott Happy With Results Of Legislative Session
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) – Now that the second legislative session of the year has come and gone, Gov. Rick Scott said he's happy with the results.
Scott accomplished his major goals in the session that ended at midnight Friday; a budget that increases school funding by $1 billion, a corporate tax cut and major changes to the personal injury protection required in auto insurance policies.
He also largely achieved a second tier of priorities, including getting rid of some state boards and commissions, creating tougher penalties for human trafficking and drug testing for state workers.
The former hospital chain CEO took office last year as a Tallahassee outsider and some criticized him at first for not treating the Legislature as a separate branch of government.
This year was smoother. Scott says it helped knowing more people in the process now.
