Gov. Scott: Florida No Longer Pill Mill Haven
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) - With 213 pill mills shut down by Florida law enforcement agencies in the past year, Gov. Rick Scott said Wednesday that law enforcement agencies are making huge inroads on stopping the folks who illegally sell prescription drugs.
The governor said 34 doctors were arrested for helping make making Florida the one-time pill mill capital of the country. Florida once had 93 of its doctors among the top 100 illegal pill dispensers nationwide, but by the end of 2011, just 13 Florida doctors made the list.
FDLE director Gerald Bailey said the success doesn't end the problem, because prescription drugs kill more Floridians than illicit drugs.
