Gov. Rick Scott Announces New Monroe County Superintendent
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Long time Key West resident Mark T. Porter has been tapped by Governor Rick Scott to take the reigns of the Monroe County School District as its new Superintendent.
Porter, 56, has dedicated 32 years of service in public education, demonstrated in his previous job positions as a teacher, administrator and a school board member.
He has held the title of deputy superintendent of the Monroe County School District as well as director, assistant superintendent and superintendent within South Washington County Schools from 2000 to 2012.
Porter attended St.Olaf College for his bachelor's degree and received a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law.
Porter will fill the position of Jesus F. Jara, who resigned back in July.
Porta's term will begin on September 5, 2012, and end on January 7, 2013.
