Gloomy Conditions Continue Into This Week
MIAMI (CBS4) - South Florida can't seem to get a break from the chance of rain.
A cold front will move into South Florida on Sunday between noon and 6 p.m. Ahead of the front, there will be low-hanging clouds with only peaks of sunshine.
Heavy rain located over the Gulf of Mexico through the morning will move to the east through the day. However, the system will weaken some as it crosses the peninsula. The heaviest rain and best threat for some thunderstorms will be on the west coast of Florida, north of Lake Okeechobee and in Palm Beach County.
Some of the rain will hold together and move into Broward, Miami-Dade and the Keys. The rainfall will not be as widespread as it will be on the western coast of Florida and in Northern Florida.
While there will be a small chance of a thunderstorms for the afternoon in South Florida, it is more likely that heavy rain and some wind will impact the area in isolated spots.
Temperatures through Sunday afternoon will reach the lower 80s and Sunday night they will be in the upper 60s inland with lower 70s along the coast. Winds will eventually turn from the southeast to the southwest.
By Monday, the winds should be out of the north. Sunday's front moves over South Florida, but gets stuck over the region for Monday as it becomes more diffuse. More showers are possible for Monday through Thursday.
Temperatures will be more seasonal in the upper 70s following Sunday's front. However, the cloudy weather and spotty showers will stay with us all this week as there is not another significant cold front expected to wash out the moisture until late in the week.
New Year's Eve, there will be a chance of a shower, but mild temperatures in the lower 70s for late night plans. By next weekend, South Florida could be flirting with overnight lows in the 50s as a stronger cold front appears to be developing in the western U.S.
