"Giving Tuesday" Turns Into "Giving Shoes Day"
MIAMI(CBSMiami) -- Dress for Success Miami turned #GivingTuesday into #GivingShoesDay on December 17th. That means you can donate two pairs of shoes to a well-known high-end company that started in shoes and get a gift in return.
One gift you can actually wear and the other can't be measured.
Koko and Palenki partnered up with Dress for Success and Suited for Success.
Pamela Garcia, owner of Koko and Palenki, said, "Bring in two pairs of shoes that are in gently used condition."
In return the shopper receives a studded pair of Dini flip-flops but more importantly you get a chance to help those looking for a job get a foot in the door.
Sonia Jacobson with Suited for Success and Dress for Success said, "This is all low-income woman who have been trying to find a job since the economy changed."
The group started out as a clothing drive for women interviewing for jobs, then a shoe drive but it turned into an entire training program for those who need work.
Jacobson said, "We started out providing a suit and we immediately realized this was a band-aid."
That's when the clothing program became an interview skills training program There are 132 chapters in 11 countries.
The drive takes place Tuesday at Koko and Palenki at Village of Merrick Park, Dadeland and Aventura.
