Gingrich's Family Not Giving Up
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Despite sagging poll numbers and a growing financial gap, Newt Gingrich and his supporters are not ready to throw in the towel just yet.
While Newt has been stumping across the state, his daughter, Kathy Lubbers, is doing the same to try to get to as many people as possible in the final hours before Tuesday's Florida primary.
Part of Newt's problem in Florida has been the cost of running ads in the state. Romney's deep pockets, and the deeper pockets of a Super PAC backing him, have drowned the state in millions of dollars in attack ads aimed at Gingrich.
"Well, I don't know if you'd say buy the vote so much as slowed down my father's momentum," Lubbers said of Romney's financial advantage. "I think he's spent $15 million in the state of Florida alone on Mitt Romney. That's a significant amount of money to be putting out in negative contexts. Interestingly, he hasn't put a single dime behind his leadership as a governor."
Lubbers has been working as a senior advisor for her father's campaign and has deep ties to South Florida, where she's lived for 11 years.
CBS4 and CBSMiami.com will be your source tomorrow for all of the most up-to-date primary coverage throughout Tuesday.
CBSMiami.com will have immediate election results and CBS4's David Sutta and Gio Benitez will be with the Romney and Gingrich camps respectively Tuesday.
