Gingrich Set To Run For President
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – Controversial former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich will announce Wednesday that he is running for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, according to CBS News.
As with any presidential candidate, Florida will be the key to winning the nomination. The Sunshine State is hosting the Republican National Convention in 2012, so voters can expect to see a steady stream of GOP candidates flooding the state in the next 18 months.
Gingrich will announce his decision on Facebook and Twitter and then sit down for a softball interview with conservative commentator and Fox News host Sean Hannity.
Gingrich led the Republican revolution in the House of Representatives in 1994 and also helped lead the charge to impeach then-President Bill Clinton. Gingrich would later step down amidst heavy criticism for his policies and personal life.
The GOP field includes several candidates like Gingrich, Tim Pawlenty, and Mitt Romney. The GOP field could also include Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, and former Godfathers Pizza CEO Herman Cain.
