Geraldo Rivera: Hoodie Responsible For Trayvon's Death
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – While Dwyane Wade and the Miami Heat were tweeting out their support for Trayvon Martin, reporter Geraldo Rivera took to the Fox News Channel to lay blame for the death of Martin on the teenager.
"I think the hoodie is much responsible for Trayvon Martin's death as George Zimmerman was," Rivera said on Fox & Friends Friday morning.
Martin was carrying iced tea and Skittles when he was shot to death by Zimmerman. Martin, 17, was also wearing a hooded sweatshirt, or hoodie. Zimmerman has claimed he shot in self-defense, even though 911 calls seem-to-contradict his claims.
Rivera later took to Twitter to say that his son opposed his position on Trayvon's death and the role the sweatshirt played in the tragedy.
"My own son just wrote to say he's ashamed of my position re hoodies," Rivera tweeted a few hours after making his original statement.
Rivera said he wasn't blaming the victim, but that "Its common sense-look like a gangsta&some armed schmuck will take you at your word," he said via Twitter.
Rivera continued on Twitter, "Its sad that I have to be the one reminding minority parents of the risk that comes with being a kid of color in America – channel the rage."
