MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Georgia man died while on a dive trip offshore of Key Largo.
Morris Lamb of Covington, Georgia was visiting his brother in Key Largo.
Late Thursday morning they were on a boat with a neighbor near the Carysfort Reef Light which Lamb, 50, wanted to check out.
He got in the wearing scuba gear and then began yelling for help. Wave heights were reported to be about three feet, and there was a strong current in the area.
The neighbor and Lamb's brother, who had remained in the boat, jumped in the water and tried to help him but ran into trouble due to the strong current which carried them away from their boat. Another person on the boat called for help.
A Coast Guard crew and Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officer pulled Lamb and the other two men from the water. Lamb was taken to Mercy Hospital in Miami, where he was pronounced dead. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner will be performing an autopsy on him. The other two men were reported to be uninjured.
