Gators Close Spring Football Practices

GAINESVILLE (CBS4) - The upheaval the University of Florida football team went through this off-season won't carry over to spring practice. At least that's the hope of head coach Will Muschamp.

The first-year head coach closed spring practice to both fans and the media. Muschamp's move is the first time in University of Florida history that spring practice has been closed.

Muschamp says the decision was made "in the interest of helping our program be successful on Saturdays this fall."

Muschamp believes closed practices could give the Gators the element of surprise next season with new offensive and defensive schemes.

The most anticipated change will be on the offensive side of the ball. The Gators will be debuting offensive coordinator Charlie Weis' new offense for the first time this fall.

The Gators will continue to open their spring game to the public. It will be played April 9 at Florida Field.
