Gator Which Attacked 90-Year Old Woman Captured
COPELAND (CBS4) – An eight foot alligator which attacked a 90-year old woman near Naples has been captured.
The gator was found Monday near Margaret Webb's home in Copeland.
Webb was walking near her home on August 31st when the gator lunged out of a canal, clamped onto her leg and tried to drag her into the water. Webb, was able to hang on long enough for a man driving by to stop and help her. That good Samaritan tried to shoot the alligator but it got away.
Webb's leg was "barely attached" after the attack and had to amputated.
Officials from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said when they found the gator it had been shot in the head and may have been hit by a car.
Wildlife officials said they will euthanize the alligator.
