Gas Prices May Drop In 2013
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Gas prices have been one of the biggest hindrances to a more broad economic recovery. But AAA is predicting that prices will likely drop in 2013.
Prices across Florida are actually lower than they were a year ago. According to AAA, a gallon of regular in Florida costs an average of $3.44 compared to a 2012 price of $3.45. But, Florida's prices are still significantly higher than the national average.
Across the country, fuel prices are running an average of $3.31 compared to a 2012 price of $3.39 a gallon.
The state averages in the Southeast part of the country are some of the lowest in the country. Tennessee, for example, has an average price of $3.20 a gallon this week, compared to $3.26 a year ago.
AAA said last year's annual average for a gallon of gasoline was $3.60. This year, the Energy Information Administration is forecasting an annual average of $3.44.
"Gas prices are expected to average less this year because of lower demand and increased domestic oil production," said Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman, The Auto Club Group. "While gas is forecast to cost less this year, motorists will see prices inch up in the short term, before they stabilize and/or retreat."
However, that can all change in a hurry due to global shifts in demand and global crises in oil producing countries.
